Dear friends and colleagues,
In these months we are working, under the supervision of Prof. Marco
Ferraguti, on the vexata questio of the biological status of the Tubifex
tubifex species. Indeed, as you know, the few molecular analyses made on
different populations of T.tubifex coming from Europe and North America
(Beauchamp et al., 2001. Molec. Phil. Evol. 19, 216-224; Sturmbauer et
al., 1999. Mol. Biol. Evol. 16, 967-974) revealed the existence of
several cryptic species.
I would like to re-address and deepen this problem using more than one
gene, looking for populations coming from more different parts of the
world and trying to point out morphological markers to distinguish each
species assemblage.
This is why Im asking your help.
Is it possible for you to collect samples of T. tubifex in your
surroundings and send them to me?
If you are willing to collaborate I will send you some details about
fixation techniques.
Thank you in advance for your kindness
Best Regards
Roberto Marotta and Angelica Crottini
