Dear Colleagues,
As the current President of the International Polychaetology Assocation, I
want to note that with the 10th IPC in Lecce, Italy, approaching we need to
consider venues for future meetings. While we have one likely proposal for
a meeting in 2013, I want to note that it is becoming increasingly difficult
to find proposals for future meetings. The last open competition between
venues was at the meeting in Iceland in 2001 where Spain was selected over
the USA.
While I have written to a few key individuals and will continue to do so, I
want to encourage proposals for Meeting venues in 2013 and 2016.
Host countries to date are: Australia, Denmark, USA (California), France,
China, Brazil, Iceland, Spain, USA (Maine), and Italy. Thus 10 venues, nine
countries. There are several prominent countries who regularly send numerous
participants, yet have not offered to host conferences. While considerable
work is required to organize and host a meeting and then deal with the
publication of results, it is a rewarding experience that will provide
lasting memories for hosts and participants.
If anyone is interested in presenting a proposal to host a Conference in
either 2013 or 2016 that we can discuss in Lecce, then drop me a note at:
James.Blake from aecom.com. In the meantime, I will continue to contact a few
key individuals.
Jim
