Better to cite the DOI link?

Yes, the DOI is the everlasting link. The publisher controls what is sitting at the end of it. But do I want a DOI which goes straight to a 17 mb file which dumps itself in my browser? No, I don't.  I don't know what the rules are, but I want the DOI to take me to the meta data page, with abstract, etc, as is commonly the situation.  Then I choose what I download from the options available.
