Your questions are pertinent, but personally I've said what I wanted to say. Regard it as a public service advisory for the future if you like.
There are situations where comments in binominals can occur by convention, but these are not truly species names, rather they are *identifications* of a provisional nature using such as aff. and cf. and are probably better written in the form Alitta cf. Alitta succinea rather than Alitta cf. succinea, so that the valid name still appears in its normal form.
