*Subject:* [indeep-alert] List of Taxonomists****
** **
Dear all,****
****
One of the INDEEP WG1 activities is to produce a dynamic list of
taxonomists who work on deep-sea taxa for open access on the INDEEP
website. This will inform the INDEEP community of the first point of
contact for resolving taxonomic issues and may well lead to new
collaborations. Deep-sea taxonomists are increasingly being included in
grant proposals as it is recognised that there is a need to specify this
activity at the outset. This process of compiling this list is now
underway and I would like to ask the INDEEP community for help.****
****
The list that will appear online will contain the names, contact
information, taxon worked on and specialism for each taxonomist. To
clarify, the term taxonomist here is defined as: persons working on
resolution of alpha taxonomic problems (such as new species descriptions,
revisions and keys), rather than =91users of taxonomy=92 (i.e. those who ca=
n
identify deep-sea animals =96 we are all users of taxonomy whatever our
biological research field!). Experts in Molecular systematics are welcome
additions to the list. We are aware many morphological taxonomists also use
this technique or collaborate with others who do. Therefore please provide
information in the following formats:****

*Name Email
Affiliation Taxon
Specialism*****

The focus groups we have been collating for so far have been benthic macro
and megafauna. Please send us details of specialists that you are aware of
=96 even just a name is a good enough (i.e. if you don=92t know email or
affiliation etc don=92t worry). We particularly need help with the
meiofaunal taxonomists and planktonic groups. When the list is nearing
completion we will be contacting all those listed to ask for permission to
include their details on the INDEEP website. For this reason we are not
sending the current list out to all at this time. Please send us names =96
even if you think we may already have them as this will help us validate
our current list.****
****
Many thanks in advance for your help. This list will be as comprehensive
as you make it!****

Kind regards,****
