Hi All,

More such please.

At a time when government funding declines and job retrenchments seem the norm, it is good to hear of some individual largesse making research possible. These private funding sources can make a real difference, witness the past Census of Marine Life support from the Sloan Foundation.

"The goal of the project-Smithsonian's Tennenbaum Marine Observatories-is to monitor the ocean's coastal ecosystems over a long period of time."

(a couple of months old, but I don't recall hearing of it before).
