Dear colleagues

I am pleased to report that the 11th international Polychaete Conference Proceedings, to be published as a special number of Memoirs of Museum Victoria, is being well supported. At last count, 19 manuscripts had been received or promised (some of you will not yet have received individual acknowledgement of receipt of your manuscript; I apologise for that and will rectify that over the next 24 hours). A number of authors have asked for a short extension of the 31 October deadline, and the editors are happy to agree to this request. The deadline is now Friday 15 November (wherever you are; we shall not be pedantic about the time zone, nor about a few hours here or there). We hope that those who were equivocal about submitting manuscripts, or were unsure if they could do so on time, will now reconsider and renew efforts to be a part of the volume.

If you are yet to submit your manuscript, please note that only low resolution figures should be submitted at this stage (to facilitate emailing to referees). Retain high resolution figures until these are requested by the editors.

This slight extension to the manuscript submission deadline compresses the time available for refereeing and revision of manuscripts. We trust that referees and authors will support the editors by responding to these onerous tasks as quickly as possible, when requests are made. The published volume is expected to be available mid-2014 as originally planned (individual articles can and will be published online as they are accepted). If you wish to purchase a printed copy and have not already advised me of this, please let me know (note that all papers will be freely available as open access pdfs online).

A repeat of the original posting to the annelid list is appended below ...

Submission of manuscripts in the proceedings or the 11th International Polychaete Conference
Participants in the 11th International Polychaete Conference are encouraged to submit papers for publication in the proceedings of the conference, which will be published in the Memoirs of Museum Victoria. Memoirs publishes papers on original research in the natural sciences pertinent to Victoria and/or the museum's collections; for this special issue oral and poster presentations from the Conference will also be considered for publication. Independent referees assess all contributions prior to publication. All published papers will be freely available online. Recent issues can be viewed at http://museumvictoria.com.au/about/books-and-journals/journals/memoirs-of-museum-victoria/ and a guide to authors (including details of ZooBank registration for new species) is at http://museumvictoria.com.au/pages/44917/i-ii_mmv70_prelims_final.pdf.

If sufficient manuscripts are received, we hope that printed volumes will be available for purchase if pre-ordered; price and deadline for orders will be advised on acceptance of manuscripts in early 2014. Price is likely to be of the order of $Aus40-$50 including postage assuming all conference participants preorder. It would be helpful to receive expressions of interest from those intending to purchase a printed volume.

Richard Marchant is the scientific editor of the Memoirs. Guest associate editors for this issue will assist with referee selection: Chris Glasby, Pat Huchings and Robin Wilson. Inquiries and manuscript submissions can be made to Richard Marchant rmarch from museum.vic.gov.au<mailto:rmarch from museum.vic.gov.au> or Robin Wilson rwilson from museum.vic.gov.au<mailto:rwilson from museum.vic.gov.au>.
