I did not know Professor Nonato personally. However I do know his work, and that he was well respected and cherished in Brazil. It is a delight to see the many happy photographs of him with Brazilian polychaete researchers and students that have appeared on Facebook over the last few days.
He will be long remembered

I am desolate to tell you that Professor Edmundo Ferraz Nonato passed
away yesterday, at 93, fully active and working with his beloved worms.
He suffered a vascular accident just after leaving his lab. What else
can we hope for, if not for the care of the Reaper Man?
