The book represents some results from the long-term researches of polychaetes of estuaries and Russian Far Eastern seas and adjacent waters of the Pacific Ocean. The review of literature is compiled in historical order and contains the following parts: first records, faunal studies, revisions, reproduction and larval development, biogeographic investigations and vertical distribution, mode of life and ecology. An annotated checklist includes 305 genera and 685 species/subspecies in 61 families. Distribution in the Far Eastern waters are given for each species. Short information on synonyms and remarks are given for 218 taxons. Generic names were changed in four species: Haplosyllis orientalis Buzhinskaja n.comb., Aphelochaeta pacifica (Annenkova) n. comb., Parasabella fullo (Grube) n.comb., Eudistylia suavis (Grube) n. comb. Species Eupolymnia caulleryi Buzhinskaja, 2013 replace Eupolymnia robusta (Caullery, 1944), junior homonym of Eupolymnia robusta (Annenkova, 1925). The bibliography consists of 747 titles from 1849 to 2012. There are 40 photos in the supplement. The book is intended for marine biologists, ecologists, zoologists, lecturers and students.
