I heard that Mary was still corresponding with colleagues until recently so it is sad news to learn that she is no longer with us.
I first met Mary in Australia and at nearly every polychaete conference since then and she was always generous if not, overwhelming, with her knowledge. No question was too small to be left answered.
I was certainly impressed her knowledge and detailed figures for illustration.

Subject: [Annelida] RE: Mary Petersen

Dear colleagues,

I have learned via Les Watling and others at the Darling Marine Center, the
sad news that Dr. Mary Petersen passed away yesterday morning (7 July)
after a short battle with cancer.

I have many memories of Mary's friendship, generosity and willingness to
share her extensive knowledge of polychaetes to whomever needed it. I am
certain that there will many memories of her posted in the days to follow.

Jim
