This is very sad news indeed.
I first met Nechama in 1991 when she came to Frankfurt for a working visit and "converted " me (her terminology) to polychaetology. We became friends and collaborated on several publications. I always valued her expertise, experience and support. Our joint participation in an expedition to the Levantine Basin - her sea - in 1993 onboard the 'Meteor' has been one of the highlights of our collaboration. Like many colleagues I have always looked forward to meeting her in conferences and I know that it has been very hard for her not to be able to attend the meeting in Sydney last summer.
I will always remember Nechama as a very special person, active and energetic but also very warm-hearted.
She will be missed.

Dear colleagues,
Our dear friend Nechama Ben Eliahu has passed away after a long illness. Nechama was an expert on Serpulidae, and studied the serpulid fauna of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea over the past 40 years. She was an active member of the international annelid community and of the Israeli zoological community. She will be sorely missed.
Ariel
