Hi all,

Social media loves the more bizarre members of our study group of course. Thus today I get to share with you leeches which really get up your nose:

http://nmnh.typepad.com/no_bones/2014/10/encounters-with-t-rex-the-tyrant-leech-king.html

I recall the leech specialising in hippopotamus bottoms - quoting the abstract "Evidence suggests that mating in P. jaegerskioldi is restricted to the rectum of the hippopotamus"

Oosthuizen, J. H.; Davies, R. W. 1994. The biology and adaptations of the hippopotamus leech ...

Is there no limit to the ingenuity of annelid worms? They swim, they eat fish and ice and other strange stuff, they live in hot water, they grow branches, they produce light, they get up your nose.

Geoff
