I met Kristian for the first time in July 1994, at the Polychaete Course in Ischia. It was a great Event and a good time for all of us who came to learn. My English was poor but Kristian inspired me to give my first talk to audience and then invited to visit his lab at Smithsonian. It was the way to the world of polychaetes for many of us. And his and Len's friendly house on the Fourteenth Street North was a harbor to stay, to enjoy and always to learn about many things in this world. Kristian's knowledge, smile, enthusiasm, humor and jokes will be always remembered...

Kristian Fauchald was the first person I met at my first international polychaetological conference at Copenhagen, in 1986. I was young, I was shy, I felt as a bird out of the nest. I did not know who was that bearded guy, with a strange accent, who came to me, said hello and shook hands. And then he introduced himself in the nicest way of the world, to my utter amazement. I have not recovered from the shock as yet. Thanks for everything, Kristian.
