The entire polychaete community is in shock at Kristian's passing. He had a huge influence on the careers, work, and lives of so many of us. He leaves behind a void that others will fill, but not in the same way because there will never be another Kristian. He was my boss, mentor, and friend. One of my fondest memories is visiting the Smithsonian for a week in December 1990 and staying with Kristian and Len at their home on Q Street. Their home was always open to guests. It was a week of worm research and dinner parties with good friends, food, and drink. Kristian was a generous man in so many ways. The polychaete community he leaves behind benefitted greatly from his work, leadership, and guidance.
Sad worm regards,

"What's the use in their having names," the Gnat said, "if they won't answer to them?"
"No use to them," said Alice: "but it's useful to the people who name them, I suppose."

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that Kristian Fauchald passed away last night peacefully in his sleep. I'll pass along information regarding the memorial once I know the arrangements.
There are so many things I could say about this great man, friend, colleague, and mentor, but I am devastated at his loss.
Kirk
