Very sad to hear of Kristian's passing. I always think of him with great affection.
In 1981 at a dinner in DC I asked if I may start research on a polychaete family at the Smithsonian.
He asked suspiciously What group ?
I replied The Chrysopetalidae.
He laughed and said - No problems, I have no ego in that group !
On Wednesday afternoons for one year I delved into the collections and used his microscopes, while he did administration.
Lamenting a move to remote Darwin, Australia, Kristian remembered his upbringing in Norway and said remote is good- a great place to raise children and focus on research. He was right !
Vale Kristian !
