The Huntsman Marine Science Centre (www.huntsmanmarine.ca<http://www.huntsmanmarine.ca>) is seeking an individual to complement
research and management staff at its Atlantic Reference Centre (ARC), located in the historic resort town
of St. Andrews by-the-Sea in New Brunswick, Canada (http://standrewsbythesea.ca). The ARC is an
externally funded marine research museum with a biodiversity and systematics laboratory, involved in basic
and applied research that serves a broad clientele including governments, universities and industries, as
part of the integrated services program provided by the Huntsman.
We seek a dynamic scientist who can demonstrate clear evidence of research ability, is team work
oriented, can develop and lead contracts and projects, and thrives on creating growth opportunities and
meeting challenges in the areas of coastal ecology and biodiversity. Strong organizational skills and a
demonstrated ability to implement, manage and successfully complete projects are required. Evidence of
scientific/technical skills related to marine habitats and understanding of coastal ecology are assets.
University adjunct appointments to foster research collaborations and graduate student co-supervision
are also encouraged.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research, write proposals, manage contracts; train and supervise project staff; conduct
statistical data analyses and write reports; manage client relations; participate in museum
management.
Qualifications and skills:
Ph.D., or equivalent experience, in ichthyology or benthos/plankton biodiversity, broad taxonomic
(including morphology-based specimen identification) and marine ecological knowledge, together
with strong oral and written communication skills are expected. Demonstrated experience in
project development, management and client liaison, particularly relating to environmental
assessments involving faunal analysis techniques for diverse stakeholders is an asset. Museum
curatorial experience is desirable and familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS)
technology and/or molecular taxonomic techniques are also assets.
