Dear all,

I am Shinri TOMIOKA, a Ph. D. student at Hokkaido University, Japan.

I have been engaged in descriptive taxonomy of the Japanese capitellids for the last three years, and my Ph. D. dissertation will be on a systematic study of family Capitellidae.

This family needs a serious revisional study, because the included genera were established based on a combination of characters. This characters are ontogenetically variable. Therefore, the genus-level taxonomy is not likely to reflect phylogenic relationships.

I started a molecular phylogenic analysis with fresh material that I have collected in Japanese water. However, it is impossible to include all the capitellid genera only Japanese materials. This family has a worldwide distribution, and the members of some genera appear only outside Japanes water.

I should be grateful if any of you in this list could supply capitellid specimens for DNA extraction.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Best regards,

Shinri
