Dear colleagues,

Just to bring to the attention of Amphinomidae workers an unfortunate long-standing error in the WoRMS (www.marinespecies.org) record for the recombination Amphinome rostrata. Kinberg, 1867 was credited with the authorship by WoRMS at least since 2008, but this is wrong, and it is of course Pallas, 1766. However, the WoRMS record for the type species of Amphinome has always correctly recorded the type as Aphrodita rostrata Pallas.

The Kinberg authorship for the recombination was vaguely plausible as he had named Colonianella rostrata Kinberg, 1867, a junior synonym of Pallas's species.
If interested further some notes at WoRMS under Amphinome rostrata, and under the record for Amphinome Bruguière, 1789 will fill in the details.

As an aside we recently found some live Amphinome rostrata on a float drifting into New Zealand. This is fairly unusual, as NZ lies outside its favoured temperature range
