In the December
of 1972 P.Knight-Jones & Walker (
Spirorbinae (Serpulidae, Polychaeta) on limpets from the South Orkney Islands.
- Bull. Br. Antarct. Surv., 31: 33-40.) described a new species Protolaeospira (Dextralia) stalamia n.sp.
Diagnosis of subgenera is given, type species too, but there are do not
indicated, that it is new subgenus, though it is first mention of subgenus.
As an author of
subgenus indicated P. Knight-Jones 1972b ( Spirorbinae
(Serpilidae: Polychaeta) from south-eastern Australia. A new genus, four new
subgenera and seven new species. - Bull. Br. Mus. Nat. Hist. (Zool.). 24(4):
231-259.). But indeed this paper was published later (only in 1973) and Phyllis
really established there a new subgenus Dextralia inside Protolaeospira.
So now I’m at a loss, how correctly indicate authors
and dates of description both of subgenus Dextralia and species Protolaeospira
(Dextralia) stalamia.
As I find in the
ZC, new taxa name published after 1999 must have the indication, that it is a new
taxon (sp.n, gen. nov. etc) but it is not necessary for publications before
1999.
What is your
opinion, does it correct to right
*
Subgenus Dextralia 1972 Knight-Jones P in
Knight-Jones P, Walker 1972
and
*
Protolaeospira
(Dextralia) stalamia Knight-Jones
P, Walker 1972
Mentioning of Knight-Jones
P., 1973 only in remarks (explanation)?
Files of both
papers are attached.
Dear all, especially the experts on nomenclature
problems
Please help me to solve one puzzle. I have an idea,
but I am not sure that I’m right. I have noticed this problem just a couple
days ago.
In the December of 1972 P.Knight-Jones &
Walker (Spirorbinae (Serpulidae,
Polychaeta) on limpets from the South Orkney Islands. - Bull. Br. Antarct.
Surv., 31: 33-40.) described a new
species Protolaeospira ( Dextralia) stalamia n.sp. Diagnosis of
subgenera was given, of the type species as well, but there was no indication
that it is new subgenus, athough it was the first mentioning of the subgenus. P.Knight-Jones
& Walker (1972) indicated P. Knight-Jones 1972b (Spirorbinae (Serpilidae:
Polychaeta) from south-eastern Australia. A new genus, four new subgenera and
seven new species. - Bull. Br. Mus. Nat. Hist. (Zool.). 24(4): 231-259.) as the
author of this subgenus .I.e. they described a new species as belonging to a
genera which already described. However,
the paper above was actually only published in March of 1973 and P. Knight-Jones indeed established a new subgenus Dextralia inside Protolaeospira in that paper.
So now I’m at loss how correctly indicate the authors
and dates of description for both subgenus Dextralia and species Protolaeospira ( Dextralia) stalamia .
As I found in the ICZN, new taxon name published after
1999 must have an indication that it is a new taxon (sp.n, gen. nov. etc) but
it was not required for publications before 1999.
In your opinion, is it correct to write
Subgenus Dextralia 1972 Knight-Jones P in
Knight-Jones P, Walker 1972
and
Protolaeospira ( Dextralia ) stalagmia Knight-Jones P, Walker 1972
mentioning of Knight-Jones P., 1973 only in remarks
(explanation)?
Pdfs of of both papers are attached.
PS. I’m need it for preparing 4-th part of the our serial
with Ippolitov about spirorbin tubes ultrasucteres and some other things.
Sincerely youth
Alexander V. Rzhavsky
