Dear worm folk,

I would like to get an idea of how many of you would be interested in an update to POLikEY. An information system for polychaete families and higher taxa
Version 2: 5 June 2003. http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/abrs/online-resources/polikey/

With enough interest there might be resources available either to update the taxonomy (family and higher taxon changes since 2003), the platform, or both - see below. Personally I think a platform update would be difficult, but the idea of an app is interesting ...

Also it might be worth considering to incorporate the latest on feeding guild information.

If you reply directly to me, I'll update the group with the results.

Best, Chris

Subject: ABRS identification key CDs [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi all (apologies for the group email, & hello to Chris Glasby and Andy Austin whom I haven't met yet),

I have a couple of questions regarding the series of identification keys that ABRS published (or co-published with CSIRO and/or Lucid) about a decade ago. Due to popular demand for the spider key, I am investigating if we can update it - in both taxonomy and in operating platform. There are other keys - e.g., flies, wasps, mites, polyclad flatworms, and PoliKey - that may also benefit from a revision, but I don't know how popular they are and if there is a need.

Do you (including colleagues and students etc) still use any of the ABRS keys? If not, why (e.g., incompatible operating system, or out of date taxonomy)? Do you think it would be worthwhile if we overhauled them to work on an online or app platform?

Please feel free to circulate this request amongst your networks, because the more data the merrier. I don't want to commit to this kind of project if there is no need in the research community.

Thanks,
Haylee
