Dear all,
Here are links to a new open access ZooKeys paper looking at the names to be used for Hydroides serpulid species, their etymology, and how we think the ICZN Code rules affect each name. We hope it proves useful as backgrounder for workers who encounter Hydroides.
Read, Geoffrey B.; Ten Hove, Harry; Sun, Yanan; Kupriyanova, Elena K. 2017. Hydroides Gunnerus, 1768 (Annelida, Serpulidae) is feminine: a nomenclatural checklist of updated names. ZooKeys 642: 1-52.
We also sorted out what the geolocations of the type localities should be in modern understanding. If you think the maps are a bit small (they are) then zoom in. We also tried hard to provide links to as much original literature as is online. There is also a supplementary excel data file (click on the Data tab to the right at the web site). I've no idea why there's no link in the pdf. Will ask.

We credit WoRMS twice in our literature cited (as well as 107 species links in the text).
This is a good opportunity for me to mention that if taxonomists use WoRMS taxa records and notes, or make comments in articles about WoRMS content, then the relevant WoRMS records should be cited in the text and listed in references (copying content uncredited is called plagiarism, credited copying is called scholarly). There is a formatted suggested citation at the bottom of every WoRMS taxon page. Thanks.
Cheers and happy new year,
Geoff, Harry, Yanan & Lena
