Dear Carol,
Not sure if they make tubes that go into the wood, but the following is from Wolff (1979):
"A n n e l i d a : P o l y c h a e t a . Live specimens and empty tubes of an undescribed species of Nothria (family Onuphidae) are present on rhizomes and between blades of Thalassia, on pieces of bark (Sts P844 and PI 178), and on Sargassum (PI 87) from altogether 8 stations.
The tubes are 24-28 mm long, hyaline, and partly covered with tests of pelagic foraminiferans and small mollusc shells (PL IF).
On bark (St. P338) was found a species of Maldanidae in a semitransparent tube, with many very small and a few larger tests of
foraminiferans of pelagic origin.
Serpulidae were present on a large lump of wood (PL IE), on a Nothria tube on bark (PL IF), and on wood (St. P53); they represent two, perhaps three species (K. Fauchald pers. commn)."

Cheers,
Edwin
