Dear friends and family of Sasha - and the polychaete community at large.
I too am deeply saddened by the loss of Sasha, and the too-soon curtailing of his life. He was a lively and enthusiastic person - as a colleague, friend and scientist.
He visited our lab and I have so many great memories of him - in person and also by Skype. His trademark was fantastic humour and true dedication.
Like all of us, I (and we) will miss him and on behalf of his friends in Tromsø, northern Norway, we offer condolences to his family -and we wish Sasha peace after his struggle.

Subject: [Annelida] Sasha Rzhavsky
Dear colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that my old friend and one of my closest colleagues Alexander (Sasha) Rzhavsky lost his battle with cancer. He was the last person on this planet who really and completely understood spirorbins - the rest of us, his co-authors, just pretended. Sasha and I published 2 books and many serpulid papers together. I named after him one of the first species http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=369220 that I described as a budding taxonomist...
Recently we published a field guide on Arctic serpulids - it is available for sale now and is the best tribute to my dear friend. I will do my best to finish and publish the manuscripts we worked on together, but I feel lost now.
Wormly
Lena
