Dear colleagues,
We wanted to update you all on the NHM London’s Annelida collections. Recent accessions, how to access the collections digitally and a reminder that we are very much open for research visits and loans of material for research including DNA sampling.
We have had over 25,000 new accessions in 2018 so far. Some of the highlights have been in the Southern Ocean and South Atlantic with over 3,000 vials of identified Antarctic polychaetes from the recent BIOPEARL expedition (https://goo.gl/SqwqSs ) and 4,000 from north of the Falkland Islands. However we have also had Oligochaetes and Polychaetes from around the globe and are currently processing a major new British polychaete collection of approximately 6,000 vials.
The collection is open for DNA sampling, and it’s noteworthy that recent accessions, including the majority of the BIOPEARL collection, are fixed for DNA sampling.
Like many collections, we also have plenty of unworked material all around the world - please contact us if there is something you are looking for.
All our collections are available to view on the NHM data portal: http://data.nhm.ac.uk/ You can see a global heat map and other summary data of the annelid collection focus at this link: https://goo.gl/gTwkeB
Please do contact us if you have an interest in working on our collections!
