Dear Angel, Chris, and all who sent messages,
Thank you. I hope to continue also. I think I’m good for just a few more years at WoRMS but there will come a time soon … and another generation will take over I’m sure.
I’ve enjoyed the intellectual challenge with sorting out some tricky bits of nomenclature & old taxonomy encountered, and gradually we are removing the errors, aided by the fantastic facility that is BHL, and expanding our coverage to all annelids, not just marine. It’s also great to see so much good new work on annelids getting published, and recently to have two very different annelids in the top ten new species discoveries of the decade. We are also fortunate that WoRMS has funding continuity, & is well run by the data team professionals and editor steering committee.
The award was a complete surprise. Thanks everybody for your support.
Best wishes to all,
Geoff

Hats off to our World Polychaeta Database leader.
WoRMS has just announced that Geoff has received an 'Achievement Award' at the 5th World Conference of Marine Biodiversity (Canada, Montreal, 16 May) for the major and very detailed contributions he has made to WoRMS in the past years, and his input & constructive feedback during his time on the Steering Committee.
The announcement also acknowledged his work as the driving force behind The World Polychaeta Database (http://www.marinespecies.org/polychaeta), his efforts to create a more inclusive online AnnelidaBase (in analogy with MolluscaBase), and for communicating the good work of WoRMS through Twitter.
Great work Geoff!! I think I can say for all that we are all massively appreciative of the work you do to make our online annelid lives easier.
Best, Chris
