stigma development

Can anyone direct me to recent reviews or articles on pistil/stigma/papillar
 development?  And what is meant when the pollen tube is descibed as
penetrating the stigmatic surface; does it enter the papillar cytoplasm
, breach the cell wall, grow between cells?  Any references?  What 
I have read recently is very confusing.
