Some of you may wonder why BIOSCI adopted the apparently convoluted
procedure of splitting up the mailing lists instead of keeping it at
one site (I must admit that I wonder this myself when these kinds of
incidents arise 8-).  This was done to reduce transatlantic network
traffic.  Only one copy needs to be sent to the each of the other
three BIOSCI nodes instead of putting an unnecessary burden on network
gateways.  ARAB-GEN users should also realize that many more people
now have access to the group over USENET.  This is a preferable medium
for this kind of forum as opposed to e-mail.  Uniform use of USENET
would abolish the need for newsgroup mailing lists.
