THE CONFERENCE
 
The 11th Australian Biotechnology Conference will be held over the four day period 20-24th
September, 1993, at Observation City Resort Hotel, Perth, and is sponsored by the Australian
Biotechnology Association.

The Conference is being planned to attract all those interested in the science and the commercial
development of biotechnology.

The theme of the conference is "Asian-Australian Biotechnology Cooperation". It reflects the growing
importance of Biotechnology in Asia and in Australia, and will foster collaboration in both research and
commercialization.

The Conference venue, Observation City Resort Hotel is located by the beach of the Indian Ocean. 
There are excellent facilities, with shopping, banking, dining and entertainment available locally.

All lecture sessions, workshops, poster sessions and the trade display will be located together at
Observation City, to maximise interaction.

The Conference will be held during the spectacular wildflower season in Western Australia.  A social
programme and trips will be available.

 THE PROGRAMME

The major areas of interest in scientific and commercial aspects of Biotechnology will be covered. The
programme includes keynote lectures by invited speakers who are leaders in their fields, colloquia,
workshops and poster sessions. The Nancy Millis Oration, sponsored by CSL, will also be delivered.
UNESCO will sponsor a symposium on Applications of Biotechnology in Tropical Agriculture.

Invited speakers include: Wayne Gerlach, (Sydney), Nam Hai Chua (Rockerfeller/Singapore), Toyoki
Kozai  (Japan) Albert Sassoon (UNESCO), Tony Collings (CSIRO), Christine Alang (Malaysia), James
Tiedje (USA), S. Miyachi (Japan), Gabrielle Persley (World Bank), Val Giddings (USDA), G. Berry
(New Zealand), Terri Bulman (Perth), Paul Norris (UK) and Mal Brandon (Melbourne).

Abstracts of papers presented orally and in poster form will be published in the Conference
proceedings, which all registrants will receive at the time of Conference registration.

Participation in the meeting, both for oral and poster presentations is encouraged.
