  |     I have a postdoctoral position opening       |
  | October 1, 1992, for an individual interested    |
  | in pursuing our studies on the molecular         |
  | controls over the plant cell cycle.  We          |
  | have isolated a large number of clones for       |
  | plant cell cycle regulators, including cdc2s,    |
  | cyclins and MAP kinase, and are beginning to     |
  | examine mersitems of the garden pea with nucleic |
  | acid and antibody probes prepared from these     |
  | clones.  We have established methods for         |
  | cell cycle synchrony so that the activity of     |
  | these genes and the proteins which they encode   |
  | can be studied along the pathway from mitosis    |
  | to mitosis in the intact plant.                  |
  |     We are keenly interested in how these evo-   |
  | lutionarily conserved macromolecular regulatory  |
  | molecules interact with signal transduction      |
  | pathways within plant cells.  We plan to pursue  |
  | very intensively the protein phosphorylation     |
  | cascade of which the plant MAP kinase may be a   |
  | part.  This pathway may have important implica-  |
  | tions for embryogenesis, breaking of dormancy,   |
  | plant responses to mitogenic hormone regimes,    |
  | and Agrobacterium and Rhizobium infections.      |
  |     The appointment will be for one year, re-    |
  | newable for up to three years.  Starting salary  |
  | will be $24,200. Successful applicants should    |
  | have a background in nucleic acid biochemistry,  |
  | basic protein chemistry and applied immunology,  |
  | or the desire and demonstrable capacity to       |
  | acquire such skills as appropriate once on board.|
