Postdoctoral Position
University of Arizona, Tucson
Department of Plant Sciences

A postdoctoral research position is available immediately to study genetic,
molecular and biochemical aspects of pigment synthesis in Arabidopsis
thaliana. The position is part of a long-term program directed at
increasing our understanding of higher plant pigment synthesis at the
molecular level by isolating and studying biosynthetic and regulatory genes
affecting the carotenoid and chlorophyll biosynthetic pathways. A
molecular genetic approach is underway to identify and isolate these genes
from the T-DNA-induced Arabidopsis thaliana mutant population. To date
several interesting mutant lines have been identified and partially
characterized including two loci that affect phytoene desaturation and one
locus that results in completely chlorophyll b deficient plants. The
successful candidate will participate in ongoing screening and in the
isolation, characterization and analysis of already identified loci.
Previous experience in molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry is
desirable. The position is available for up to two years with starting
salary ranging from $21,000 to $23,000 commensurate with experience. The
closing date is December 1, 1993. Interested parties should send their
resume and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to: Dr. Dean
DellaPenna, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Arizona, Tucson,
Arizona 85721. Telephone (602)621-8725 fax: (602) 621-7186. Inquiries can
be sent by EMail. The University of Arizona is an EEO/AA employer. Women
and minorities are encouraged to apply.
