Funny phenotype

Dear A.t. Net workers:
  I have  a funny phenotype in some M2 mutants I have 
selected.  After six-seven weeks of growth, under normal 
light conditions and watering regimen, the stalks snap off
at the base (like a ripe fruit!!) even though the rest of the
plant is still bearing flowers and green leaves!!
  Has anyone ever seen this, and is there a jazzy name for it??
