AIMS COMPUTER DATABASE - UPDATE
AIMS, the Arabidopsis Information Management System, is now
available for use by anyone with a personal computer which is
connected to Internet or which has a modem connected to a local
mainframe. The current version of the system contains full
information on all of the ABRC stocks, and stocks can be ordered
directly from the Center using this system. The current features of
the system include:
1.Information on our approximately 1500 seed and DNA stocks.
2.Up-to-date information on over 800 Arabidopsis researchers.
3.A bibliography of approximately 3000 scientific references
relating to Arabidopsis.
4.Information on Arabidopsis genes including the results of the
recent gene nomenclature/mapping survey conducted by Dr. David
Meinke.
5.Direct, single-keystroke ordering for all stocks and
instantaneous tracking of all orders.
6.Continuous updating of information on stocks and all aspects of
Arabidopsis research.
You may consult the information sent with your December, 1992
ABRC stock list or send an electronic mail message to
inquire-aims at genesys.cps.msu.edu.

An e-mail message with information on how to use AIMS will
be returned to you by the AIMS EMAIL system.
PLACE STOCK ORDERS DIRECTLY TO ABRC USING AIMS
YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY INVITED TO PLACE YOUR ABRC STOCK ORDERS
USING THE ON-LINE SYSTEM. This has several advantages to YOU: These
are: 1) Ordering is easy and instantaneous; 2) You can track your
current order and the history of all of your previous orders,
by accessing the Order Status section of AIMS; 3) AIMS will
automatically maintain order statistics for all stocks, which will be
made available on AIMS, in the future.
ADVANCED GRAPHIC, PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE AND MOUSE INTERFACE FEATURES OF
AIMS
In addition to all the above features, three types of advanced
features are available for those who can access AIMS, through
Internet, from a workstation or from a personal computer on which X-
Windows (MacX in the case of the Macintosh) has been installed. The
enhanced features available via these systems are:
1.The ability to use the mouse to make selections during all AIMS
transactions.
2.The direct display of genetic maps, including the ability to zoom
in on local areas of the maps. In addition, the genetic map is
linked directly to information about the individual genes on the
map.
3.Photographic images of plants and DNA electrophoretic data. We
are including photographic records in AIMS for as many ABRC
stocks as possible.
To obtain information on installation and use of these features,
just send a message to
inquire-aims at genesys.cps.msu.edu.
