Two postdoctoral positions will be available at the end of this year or
the beginning of next year in the Division of Biology, Kansas State University.
One position is associated with the NASA Gravitational Biology Center. The
person hired for the position will study molecular mechanisms of plant
gravitropism. Specifically, the project is to clone and characterize genes
in higher plants involved in auxin or gravity signal perception and
transduction to the growth response. The second position, supported by USDA,
will be involved in the study of plant hormone physiology using genetic
engineering approaches. The individual will construct various fusion genes,
produce and analyze transgenic plants with altered auxin or cytokinin levels
in specific tissues and organs at specific developmental stages. The goals
of the project are to understand the mode of auxin or cytokinin action
during plant growth and development, and to develop strategies to generate
novel traits beneficial to agriculture and horticulture. For both positions,
preference will be given to applicants who have been trained in molecular biolo
gy, plant physiology, developmental biology or related fields. Please submit
a letter of research interest and curriculum vitae and arrange for three
letters of reference to be sent to:
