Postdoctoral Position Available
Arabidopsis Molecular Genetics - Starch Metabolism

We have an opening for a post-doctoral scientist to work on
the molecular genetics of starch metabolism in Arabidopsis.
Major goals of this project will be to improve our
understanding of the pathway of starch degradation and to
design approaches to genetically engineer improved
carbohydrates in crops. However other projects dealing with
starch metabolism may be pursued as well. The initial
approach may entail the biochemical and physiological
characterization of a collection of Arabidopsis mutants with
lesions in starch degradation (see Plant Physiology 95:1181
for an example of one such mutant). Molecular analyses,
where appropriate, will utilize T-DNA-tagged mutant lines and
map-based cloning strategies.

The optimal candidate should have experience in plant
biochemistry and physiology. In addition, experience in
molecular biology and genetics will be helpful, but not
required. This position would be a good opportunity for a
classically-trained biochemist or physiologist to obtain
experience in molecular genetics.
The position is located in the Arabidopsis genetics group in
the Central Research and Development Department at the Dupont
Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. The successful
applicant will join a large group of scientists studying
carbohydrates in Arabidopsis and other species. The
Experimental Station is home to about 4000 researchers
including about 300 active plant scientists. The site has
excellent facilities, including a research library,
greenhouses, growth chambers and modern, well-equipped labs.
The research environment is supported by active intramural
and extramural seminar series in addition to a well-supported
post-doctoral program. Interaction with the scientific
community by publication of results and attendance of
meetings is strongly encouraged.

Wilmington is attractively located in northern Delaware,
about half way between New York City and Washington, D.C.
Philadelphia is within easy commuting distance.
This position is funded for up to 3 years. Salary will be
based on experience. The position is open immediately and
will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.
The starting date is flexible. Requests for further
information and applications (including a C.V. and 3 letters
of reference) should be directed to:
