Inspired by recent US Arabiopsis Steering Committee example, cited
on this bulletin board by Elliot Meyerowitz, UK Arabidopsis
researchers recently voted for one of the two UK places on the nine
member Arabidopsis Multinational Steering Committee. This was
implemented to ensure fluidity of membership on the committee. The
slot was made available by Caroline Dean standing down after
serving on the committee since its inception.
Three nominations for the UK place were received and following an
e-mail election, Bernard Mulligan, from the Dept. of Life Science at
Nottingham University and Head of the Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock
Centre, was elected.
The other UK slot is occupied by Dick Flavell, Director of the John
Innes Centre. He will stand down in due course and a replacement
will be elected.
Perhaps a similar mechanism could be put into place to ensure
rotation of members from all countries represented on the
Multinational Steering Committee?
