OFFICE MEMO Postdoctoral Position Available Date:7/12/94
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Lisa
Earle, Dept. of Plant Breeding, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The position
involves transformation of Brassica oleracea plants (esp. broccoli) with
various Bacillus thuringiensis genes, molecular analysis of the plants, assays
of Bt protein levels, insect bioassays, studies of the effect of plant age on
expression of resistance, etc. The position is part of a collaborative project
with several entomologists aimed at developing appropriate resistance
management strategies for deployment of insect-resistant transgenic crops. We
already have large numbers of resistant plants carrying a Bt gene and are using
them in greenhouse experiments. Now we want to work with other genes and
promoters, including various inducible ones. This is a good opportunity to
combine gene transfer work with interesting physiological and environmental
I am seeking someone with good molecular skills, preferably with experience
with Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer and/or crucifers. Ability to work
independently and to assist in grant-writing are also important.
To apply or for further information, contact Lisa Earle, either at
ede3 at cornell.edu, at 607-255-6683 (fax), 607-255-3102 (phone) or Dept. of Plant
Breeding, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853-1902 as soon as possible.
