A senior postdoctoral position is available for a scientist with extensive
experience in molecular biology. The project is funded for three years by
the USDA Genome Panel and is entitled "Parallel Studies of Genome Micro-
Organization in Maize, Sorghum and Rice." This project will be the first to
compare the structure and functional components of large (30 to 150 kb)
colinear segments of related plant genomes. We have cloned these
homeologous regions (around Adh1 and between A1 and Sh2) in sorghum and/or
maize and are beginning the rice work. Components to be analyzed and
compared will be primary sequence, transcripts, scaffold attachment
regions, and sites of recombination. All of the genetic materials needed to
perform this project are in hand, but an experienced scientist is needed to
lead this effort. The position is available immediately and salary will be
commensurate with experience. Interested parties should contact Dr. Jeff
Bennetzen by email, or at the Department of Biological Sciences, Purdue
University, West Lafayette, IN 47907 (FAX = 317-496-1496). Purdue
University is an equal opportunity employer.
