RE Postdoctoral position at the Salk Institute
Postdoctoral position in flower development
A postdoctoral position is available immediately to work on the genetic and
molecular control of floral initiation in Arabidopsis (Weigel et al., Cell,
69, 843-859; Weigel and Meyerowitz, Science 261, 1723-1726). We have
previously cloned the LEAFY gene, which is the earliest known gene to be
activated in incipient flowers, and whose activity is required for proper
flower development. Current projects include:
o Analysis of the biochemical function of LEAFY protein.
o Characterization of transgenic plants ectopically expressing LEAFY.
o Identification of target genes of LEAFY.
o Identification of factors regulating and/or interacting with LEAFY.
Extensive experience in molecular biology required. The Salk Institute is
part of an exciting plant molecular biology and biomedical community
including UCSD, The Scripps Research Institute and La Jolla Cancer Research
Institute, and is located in a beautiful setting in Southern California.
