A previous post doc of mine (Triant Stasinopolous) sterilized seeds in the 
normal way and then dried them on sterile filter paper in the hood. They can
be dispersed fairly evenly on plates by creasing the filter and gently tapping
the seeds off onto plates. Dried seed could also be stored for quite a while
and remained sterile if properly packaged.
