Two three-year positions are available to develop the ISPMB-Plant Gene
Registry Database. This is an international programme supported by the
European Community and the world's major databases to regularise the gene
names in all photosynthetic organisms for the benefit of the scientific
community. A prototype database can be accessed over the Internet
(http://probe.nalusda.gov:8300/cgi-bin/browse/mendel/). 

A Higher Scientific Officer is required to develop and manage the database.
The responsibilities of the position would involve programming, curation of
the database, data processing and developing links to other databases. An
honours degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Mathematics or Computing
with at least a further 3 year's work/research experience is required.
Experience of UNIX programming using C and PERL would be advantageous and
familiarity with plant systems would be desirable but not essential.

A Scientific Officer  is required to manage data acquisition and
processing. Familiarity with plant systems and an interest in computer
applications and databases -- e.g., AceDb -- would be advantageous. An
honours degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Mathematics or Computing
is required.
