A graduate studentship leading to a M.Sc. (with possibility to transfer
to a Ph.D.) in PLANT MOLECULAR BIOLOGY is available June 1995 (date
negotiable to September 1995). The student's thesis research will be to
clone a PHYTASE gene from plants and to subsequently clone it into canola
under a seed-specific promoter in order to decrease the PHYTIC ACID level
in teh resulting seed. Canola meal contains a high level of phytic acid
which decreases the nutritional value of the meal when compared to
soybean meal. A suitable background is a B.Sc. in plant/crop physiology
or a related plant science area and an interest in laboratory work.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, transcripts and 3 letters of
reference to Dr. Peta Bonham-Smith, Department of Biology, University of
saskatchewan, 112 Science Place, Saskatoon, S7N 5E2, SK, Canada.
