POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Lisa
Earle, Dept. of Plant Breeding, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The position
involves transformation of Brassica oleracea with various Bacillus
thuringiensis d-endotoxin genes, recovery of progeny, molecular analysis of
the plants, assays of Bt protein levels, insect bioassays, etc. A field
study is planned for 1996.
The position is part of a USDA-funded collaboration with several
entomologists aimed at development of appropriate resistance
managementstrategies for deployment of insect-resistant transgenic crops. We
already have resistant plants carrying a CryIA(c) endotoxin gene and are using
them in greenhouse resistance management experiments. We now want to work with
other genes and promoters, including various inducible ones. This is a good
opportunity to combine gene transfer with interesting physiological and
I am seeking someone with good molecular skills, preferably also with
experience with Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer and/or crucifers.
Ability to work independently and interest in agricultural/environmental
issues are also important.
