Thanks to all those who supplied information on where to find MAPMAKER for the
Macintosh. To summarize, you can download any one of a number of MAPMAKER
versions (PC-DOS, Mac, or SUN) by anonymous FTP from host "genome.wi.mit.edu".
After connecting to the host, log in as "anonymous" and use your full e-mail
address as a password. Don't forget to fill out the license agreement in the
read.me file before downloading.
Mac users have several options for mapping programs:
(1) There is a Mac compatible MAPMAKER 1.0. This was a joint effort between
the MIT group and DuPont. This version is distributed by DuPont (see the MIT
FTP site for more info).
(2) If you have a Mac with A/UX ($700 Mac/Unix- software) then you can
download and use MAPMAKER 3 from the above listed FTP site.
(3) Finally, several people suggested Map Manager as an alternative to
MAPMAKER for Mac users. Map Manager is available at the following web site:
http://firstname.lastname@example.org/. I haven't tried it yet, but several
people seemed to like it
Thanks again for all of the speedy replies.
