An assistantship is available for a graduate student to study intracellular
trafficking of tRNA modification enzymes in plant cells at Concordia University
in Montreal, Canada.  We recently purified tRNA nucleotidyltransferase from
lupin and isolated the cDNA coding for this enzyme (Plant Mol. Biol., in press).Currently, we are using site-directed mutagenesis to determine how this enzyme
is targetted in plant cells.  I am seeking a graduate student who would like
to use biochemical and molecular biological techniques to carry out similar
experiments with a second tRNA modification enzyme, N2,N2-dimethylguanosine-
specific tRNA methyltransferase.  Concordia University is an english-language
university located in downtown Montreal near to three other universities,
several pharmaceutical companies and the NRC Biotechnology Research Institute.
At Concordia research in plant biochemistry and plant molecular biology is
being carried out by groups in the departments of Biology and Chemistry and
