A Postgraduate Research Studentship for molecular-physiological
research into phytochrome in Ceratodon is available at the Free
University of Berlin, Institute for Plant Physiology.
The project will center on transgenic methods (1) to bring about
phytochrome gene knockout and (2) to exploit a switchable promoter to
overexpress phytochrome transgenes in the context of protonemal photo-
and polarotropism in the model moss system, extending our current
genetic and photobiology studies (see Lamparter et al. 1995, J. Pl.
Physiol.; Zeidler et al. 1996, Pl. Mol. Biol.)
The position (Doktorandenstelle, BATIIa/2) is financed by the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft initially for two years and does not involve
teaching duties. A knowledge of the German language, while an
advantage, is not essential. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in an
appropriate area is required.
Potential candidates can obtain further information informally by
contacting Dr. Jon Hughes preferably by e-mail to
hughes at zedat.fu-berlin.de
(or by telephone 49.30.838.4308 or fax 49.30.838.4357) as soon as
