        Dear Arabadabians,

Sang Dun Choi, with stored ligated material originally used to make
the TAMU BAC "classic" library (for more info see links at the TAMU BAC web
page at http://http.tamu.edu:8000/~creel), has increased the size of the
TAMU BAC library from approx 4000 ordered clones to approx 12,000 clones
(approx 12 genomes). The average insert size is 100 +/- 10 kb. Experiments
to ascertain plastid/mito contamination and repetitive sequence clones are
underway.

We propose to make the enhanced BAC library available to
researchers working on the the genome sequencing project for a nominal
charge. Contact Rod Wing at rodwing at tam2000.tamu.edu for more information.
The TAMU BAC library ("classic") will still be available thru OSU, but will
be amended by adding approx 1 genomes worth of clones.

We are in the process of providing the OSU ABRC a new filter set
composed of 3 filters with each filter containing 4 384 plates (a total of
4608 clones or approx 4.6 genomes, the old set had 3.9 genomes). Clones
will be ordered

                        1 2 3
                                      1, 2, 3, 4 = plate number, . = blank
                        4 . 4

                        3 2 1

This new grid array will increase the signal to noise ratio, plus
give the 384 plate number based on signal orientation of diagonal left,
diagonal right, vertical, or horizontal. We plan to provide info on how to
locate and id your clone on the grid. Filter purchasers will be able to
obtain clones from OSU since we will be sending them updated 384 well
plates.

I am also in the process of compiling a filter_grid database. I
would appreciate it researchers using the TAMU BAC library would send me
any info regarding known genes, map location, contigs, etc. they have
obtained using the library (to creel at bioch.tamu.edu). This info will be
compiled and made available to the community thru the TAMU BAC website.
Thanks for your help.

        Bob
