Sunny Perth, the Real Wild West!!
Position in Plant Molecular Biology
(Plus Mediterranean Climate, unspoilt beaches and an outdoor lifestyle!)
(But you will have to hurry, closing date Fri 21st June)
 Postdoctoral Research Fellow

At: Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture (CLIMA),
Positions at MURDOCH UNIVERSITY, PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, (WA State
Agricultural Biotechnology Centre)

 POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
This position is available for 2 years initially (fully supported for 4
years by the Grains Research and Development Corporation).

This position is part of a research programme on genetic engineering of
grain legumes (particularly lupins, possibly also chickpeas, lentils) for
resistance to major viral pathogens (cucumber mosaic virus and bean yellow
mosaic virus). The research team currently consists of 1 PhD
student(molecular biology), 3 PhD students (plant transformation) and one
Honours Student (molecular biology), headed by Professor Mike Jones.

Lupins are the major grain legume grown in Australia, with 1.2 million
hectares grown in Western Australia. We have generated transgenic
narrow-leaf lupins (L. angustifolius) and yellow lupins (L. luteus). An
experienced plant molecular biologist is sought to help lead this team, and
to develop novel virus resistance constructs (The work may well evolve to
studying fungal pathogens). An ability to work in a team, to supervise the
research assistant and PD/Honours students, to develop ideas and to write up
high quality work for publication is required.

Salary: starting in the range $37,000-$44,000 (depending on experience).
Available: from 1st July 1996
