POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT.  LABORATORY TECHNICIAN,  LEVEL VII.  Molecular Biology 
of Plant Disease Resistance.  Agronomy Department, Purdue University.  JOB 
DESCRIPTION:  Serve as a research assistant in laboratory and greenhouse to 
investigate the molecular basis of disease resistance in plants.  DUTIES:  1) 
Maintain plants in the greenhouse and growth chambers including sowing seeds, 
watering, fertilizing, making crosses, harvesting seeds, and keeping seed 
inventory; 2) Monitor inventory in the laboratory and handle purchasing of 
supplies; 3) General laboratory duties including preparation of solutions, 
autoclaving, and dishwashing; 4) Assist with experimental procedures such as 
inoculation of plants with characterized pathogens, scoring disease symptoms, 
Agrobacterium transformation of Arabidopsis, tomato and tobacco, preparation of 
DNA and RNA, hybridization with radiolabeled DNA probes, and RFLP mapping.  
QUALIFICATIONS:  B.S. in genetics, plant pathology, biochemistry, agronomy or 
related field.  EXPERIENCE:  Experience with maintaining plants, general 
laboratory techniques, and some academic background in molecular biology or 
biochemistry.  SALARY:  $18,000 - 22,000 per year depending upon experience and
