Postdoctoral Position
Ribonucleases involved in mRNA decay
MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory and Department of Biochemistry
Michigan State University

A postdoctoral position is available for a Ph.D. with expertise in
biochemistry and an interest in mRNA stability and ribonuclease function in
Arabidopsis. The project will focus on the identification and
characterization of nuclear and cytoplasmic ribonucleases that participate
in mRNA degradation. It is expected that the initial phase of the work will
involve protein purification and in vitro characterization, followed by
microsequencing, cloning and functional inactivation in vivo. This project
will interface with ongoing efforts to examine the sequences and RNA-binding
proteins that mediate the decay of highly unstable transcripts in plants,
and genetic approaches to isolate mRNA decay mutants of Arabidopsis. A
summary of recent publications and additional information can be found on
our home page at http://www.bch.msu.edu/pamgreen/green.htm Candidates
with a strong background in biochemistry (in plant or non-plant systems) are
encouraged to apply. The project will also involve molecular genetic
approaches in Arabidopsis but prior experience in this area is not required.
Applicants should send a CV, relevant (p)reprints and the names, addresses
and phone numbers of three references to Dr. Pam Green, MSU-DOE Plant
Research Laboratory, Michigan State University, E. Lansing, MI 48824-1312,
or to 22313pjg at ibm.cl.msu.edu Applications received by December 10, 1996
will be guaranteed consideration. MSU is an Affirmative Action/Equal
Opportunity Institution
