Regarding the recent discussion on paralogues and orthologues, I was
interested to see in the TIGR Arabidopsis EST database the term "isolog"
used, apparently refering to an anonymous cDNA with a deduced amino acid
sequence which showed limited (but probably significant) similarity to the
sequence of a gene of known function. Does the term "isolog" have a real,
defined meaning in this context, or is it "jargon"?
